Schedule & Calendar
Lark Rise Hall meets 3 days a week (T, W, TH), 3 hours each day, from 9-12. This leaves Mondays and Fridays free for long weekend trips, private lessons, field trips, etc.
Please note that while this schedule provides the typical daily outline, it is subject to change and activities may vary. We may decide to give the opportunity for class presentations on occasion, which would change the daily schedule.
T, W, & Th
9:00
Students Arrive, Library Opens
Students and tutors arrive, head to Bullock Room
9:05 - 9:20
Pledge of allegiance + morning time
We say the pledge to begin each day as part of our morning time, which includes (but is not limited to) saying our class affirmations, reciting a poem we are working on memorizing, and reading a picture book together.
9:20 - 9:40
Writing Practice
Students practice writing following the picture book. Prompted by the book read that day, they may be encouraged to write a poem, a paragraph, a summary of book read, etc. The class will rotate through various writing concepts throughout the year. Tutors spend time helping each of their 3 assigned students, making sure they are getting individual support.
9:40 - 10:05
language arts group lesson
These lessons include but are not limited to spelling, parts of speech, grammar, etc. This will be an engaging group experience that allows the kids to interact as a group through shared lessons, songs, games, and more.
10:05 - 10:45
writing with a prompt, LA CUrriculum from home, or Pride literacy groups
Students may either write from a prompt written daily on the board, work on a Language Arts curriculum brought from home, or join in a Pride Reading and Spelling Program breakout group. These literacy breakout groups serve various levels, are led by tutors, and are available for those who choose this option.
10:45 - 11:00
Snack Break / Recess
Students get to eat their snack if they brought one, read books, interact with friends, play quiet games, spend time building with materials, etc. We generally go outside and stretch, run around, and play on the library lawn during this time, as the weather permits.
11:00 - 11:51
math hour
Students bring their own math curriculum and receive approximately 17 minutes of private tutoring in math—about 8 minutes toward the beginning of their lesson, with the tutor helping other students then circling back for their final 9 minutes toward the end of their lesson to correct mistakes and offer feedback. Note that often tutors need to answer questions or prompt other students throughout this time to try to help each student achieve their daily goals, and so this breakdown of time is not strict but rather an approximation.
11:51 - 12:00
clean up, exit room, & prep for parent pickup at 12. option to bring your student to the park after class for additional play time. parental supervision required at park.
After clean up and parent pick up, parents may want to bring students to nearby North Park (on the corner of 500 N. and 500 W. in Provo, by the Rec. Center) to play together before heading home for lunch, or families could bring and eat lunch together at the park. This is an entirely optional idea and would not be an official part of the Lark Rise day. As such it would require parental supervision. Just a fun opportunity to easily connect with friends after class ends.
